Homemade Shea Butter with Vitamin E (Chemical Free)

Our skin is our bodies largest organ.  It is full of pores that absorb all those toxins that are still found in many  lotions, creams and shampoos.  To check how your current lotions fare in terms of their toxicity level try looking them up on the Cosmetic Data Base.
Here are just a few ingredients and their side effects.
Fragrance -a cover up word used for other unnamed toxins, can cause asthma, allergies and migraines
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate - damages immune system, effects genetic information, can severely damage eyes
Parabens -can act like estrogen and has been detected in breast tumours

I have started creating my own Shea butter.   I use it as a lotion or chap stick and my husband uses it to style his hair.  I like to order mine through New Directions Aromatics which is a Canadian Company.  Shea butter has a natural SPF which is a great addition to any skin cream.  The vitamin E will help your skin stay soft, reduce scars and will help preserve the butter.  It will last a long time as a little goes a long way.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup raw Shea butter
  • 1/4 cup sweet almond butter
  • 2 teaspoons vitamin E
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

Directions
  1. In a double boiler add all ingredients and warm up just until melted.  I like to keep mine under 120F.
  2. You can poor it into a desired container or allow it to reach room temperature and then whip it for a lighter texture.  I just use the kitchen aid mixer to whip it up and then scoop into a container.
